A powerful and transformative practice is often overlooked in the tapestry of our faith. It’s important to speak in agreement with God's Word. As believers, our words carry tremendous weight, influencing our lives and shaping our world.
God’s word is living and Breathing
The Bible, which we all know is God's living and breathing Word, emphasizes the significance of our confession. Proverbs 18:21 (ESV) reminds us, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits." Our words have the potential to bring life or death, blessing or cursing, depending on whether they align with the truths found in God's Word.
Consider the Words of the Psalmist.
(Psalm 19:14): "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer." This verse encapsulates the essence of speaking in agreement with God's Word—not just with our lips, but with the very thoughts that shape our hearts.
Profound Examples
One of the most profound examples of the creative power of spoken words is found in Genesis 1, where God spoke the world into existence. As His image-bearers, we, too, have been endowed with the ability to create and shape our reality through our words. When our speech aligns with God's truth, it releases divine power into our lives.
Jesus exemplified the importance of agreeing with God's Word during His earthly ministry. In Matthew 4:4, He declared, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." Jesus recognized the life-sustaining power inherent in God's Word and lived in perfect harmony with it.
As Christians
Agreeing with God involves confessing who we are in Christ. In Romans 10:9-10, the Apostle Paul articulates this truth: "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes and is justified; with the mouth, one confesses and is saved."
Confession Goes Beyond Affirmations
Our confession goes beyond mere affirmations; it is an acknowledgment of the transformative work that God has already accomplished in our lives through Jesus Christ. As we align our words with God's promises, we tap into the reservoir of His grace, mercy, and power.
No Corrupting Talk
Let’s be mindful of Ephesians 4:29: "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." Our words should be a source of encouragement, edification, and grace, reflecting the love and character of our heavenly Father.
In conclusion, dear brothers and sisters, let’s embrace the truth that our words matter. Speaking in agreement with God is not a mere ritual but a pathway to experiencing the abundant life Christ promised (John 10:10). As we align our confession with the truths of Scripture, may our lives become a living testimony to the transformative power of God's Word.
May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts resonate with the eternal truths of God, bringing forth a harvest of blessings and glorifying the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In His love and grace,
